    Waurika city officials have decided how to spend the money. The next step is to actually acquire the money.

    But on Monday, city and county officials were exhaling and feeling somewhat relieved, after the area escaped many of the problems that ravaged other parts of the state.

    During a series of three meetings since Jan. 26, the Jefferson County Commissioners dealt with payroll, paying the bills and beginning the process to receive funds tied to a blizzard that struck the county on Christmas Eve.

    Having twice been elected o the Oklahoma State Senate, Don Barrington has made Waurika and Jefferson County a frequent stop on the campaign trail. But the Republican, who represents District 31, would probably find his way to the area often, even if he weren’t a politician.

  • City eyeing grants to fund major new project
    Getting set to embark on a major project, during a public hearing and special meeting, members of the Waurika City Commission and Waurika Public Works Authority began collecting the information that will define that project.

  • Apology extended
    Jefferson County Commissioners acknowledged there were problems in their approach to handling clearing roads during a blizzard in December, and one of the county chiefs extended an apology for a comment made about a Terral resident.

  • Career change
    Noel Curington had been considering a life change for several months and had even made it known that he’d retire some time in 2009.
    Still, as he continued to ponder the decision to resign after 21 years of being minister at Waurika Church of Christ, Curington was torn.
